Best sim racing wheel for beginners in the UK (2026)

No paid links yet. We don't earn from any link on this page, so every shop link is a plain link. Prices are UK prices on the date shown.

Researched, not tested. We haven't used these wheels, so we don't say how they feel. This page is built from the makers' UK shops and support pages and UK retailer listings, all checked on 1 November 2026.

The short answer: pick your platform first, because most wheels only work on one console. On 1 Nov 2026 the cheapest force-feedback starter kit we found was the Thrustmaster T128 (£149.99, PlayStation or Xbox versions). For a bit more, the Logitech G923 (£219.99 for the PlayStation version at Currys) and Thrustmaster T248R (£229.00 at Currys) step up in torque and features. If you're on PC or Xbox and can stretch to direct drive, the MOZA R3 (£269 for PC, £329 for Xbox and PC) was the cheapest direct-drive kit with pedals.

Step 1: pick your platform

Wheels come in console versions, and the makers are clear about what works where:

The beginner mistake to avoid: buying the PlayStation version when you might move to Xbox, or the other way round. Check the version in the product name before you pay. Our RS50 on PS5 and Xbox page explains how Logitech handles this on its direct-drive wheel.

Step 2: pick a budget and a drive type

Makers describe three kinds of motor:

Torque is the makers' own peak figure, in newton metres (Nm). The figures on this page run from 2.3 Nm (G923) to 6 Nm (R5 Pro), and makers don't all measure it the same way, so treat it as a rough guide.

Budget (1 Nov 2026) PS5 Xbox PC
Around £150 Thrustmaster T128 Thrustmaster T128 Thrustmaster T128
£220–£330 Logitech G923, Thrustmaster T248R Logitech G923, Thrustmaster T248, MOZA R3 (direct drive) Logitech G923 PC Only (£249.99), MOZA R3 (direct drive, £269)
£380–£450 Thrustmaster T598 (direct drive) MOZA R3 is the cheapest direct-drive kit we found MOZA R5 Pro, Fanatec CSL DD bundle

Step 3: where will it go?

You don't need a cockpit to start. On the makers' own pages:

Check that your desk is thick and steady enough before you buy. If you want a stand or a folding rig later, see our small-space cockpit guide.

The wheels, by price

Thrustmaster T128: the cheapest force-feedback kit

Thrustmaster says the T128 "has been designed for all gamers looking for a first racing wheel". It has force feedback, a rotation angle of 270° to 900°, a 4-colour LED strip for engine speed and the T2PM magnetic pedal set. Thrustmaster says it delivers "20% more power" than its older hybrid wheels (the T150 on the PlayStation page, the TMX on the Xbox page), but gives no Nm figure. There are two versions, both £149.99 and in stock at Thrustmaster UK on 1 Nov 2026:

Good for: a first wheel on a tight budget, on any platform. Think twice if: you already know you'll get serious. A direct-drive kit costs more, but you're less likely to replace it soon.

Logitech G923: the familiar name, cheapest at Currys

Logitech calls the G923 a "2.3 Nm with TRUEFORCE Racing System". It comes with pedals. Logitech UK sells three versions from one page: PS5/PlayStation/PC £329.99, Xbox Series X|S/Xbox One/PC £329.99 and PC Only £249.99, all available to order on 1 Nov 2026. The UK PlayStation version's part number is 941-000150 (Logitech G UK). Logitech's page was also showing a free Driving Force Shifter offer with the G923. We couldn't read its terms, so check the basket.

The PlayStation version was much cheaper at Currys: £219.99 on 1 Nov 2026, which Currys lists as compatible with PS5, PS4 and PC (Currys).

Useful later: Logitech says its Racing Adapter lets you keep using "G25/G27/G29/G920/G923 Pedals" on its direct-drive bases, so G923 pedals aren't wasted if you move up to an RS50 (Logitech G UK).

Thrustmaster T248R (PlayStation) and T248 (Xbox)

T248R (PlayStation / PC). Thrustmaster says it has "a T-HD hybrid Force Feedback system delivering 3.1 N⋅m of torque", an 11.0-inch (28 cm) rim, a colour LCD screen and LEDs, and a "T3PM 3-pedal pedal set with Hall Effect sensors and 4 pressure modes". It's "officially-licensed" for PS5 and PS4 and works with PC (Thrustmaster UK). Price on 1 Nov 2026: £249.99, in stock at Thrustmaster UK, and £229.00 at Currys, which says it was £249.00 from 4 Sep to 29 Oct 2026 (Currys).

T248 (XBOX / PC). Thrustmaster UK says the T248 is "officially licensed for XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, and compatible with PC" (Thrustmaster UK). It was £269.99, in stock, with a "mixed belt and gear mechanism", a screen with "more than 20 different displays", magnetic paddle shifters and the T3PM magnetic pedal set with 4 pressure modes on the brake (Thrustmaster UK shop). The Xbox page gives no Nm figure.

G923 or T248R on PS5? On paper the T248R has more torque (3.1 Nm against 2.3 Nm) and a screen. The G923 has Logitech's TRUEFORCE. At Currys' prices on 1 Nov there was about £9 between them. For GT7 specifically, see our GT7 wheel guide.

MOZA R3: the cheapest direct drive (PC and Xbox, not PlayStation)

MOZA's R3 bundles pair a 3.9 Nm direct-drive base with a wheel, SR-P Lite pedals (no clutch) and a table clamp (MOZA UK). There are two versions, both in stock on 1 Nov 2026:

It won't work on PlayStation. MOZA's own support page says its products "do not support PS4 or PS5" (MOZA Wheel Base FAQs). A clutch pedal is a £39.90 add-on at MOZA UK.

Stepping up on PC: MOZA R5 Pro or Fanatec CSL DD

MOZA R5 Pro, £389. A 6 Nm direct-drive base with the ES Lite wheel, SRP Lite2 two-pedal set and a table clamp. MOZA says it "is designed for Windows PC". On 1 Nov 2026 MOZA UK listed it as "Ships in 25 business days" (MOZA UK). Our R5 vs R5 Pro page covers it in full.

Fanatec CSL DD Ready2Race Bundle (5 Nm), £449.99 (Fanatec's "original price" £546.96), available on 1 Nov 2026. Fanatec lists the CSL Steering Wheel P1 V2, the CSL DD base, CSL Pedals and a table clamp in the box, and calls the P1 V2 "an ideal starter wheel for the CSL DD" (Fanatec UK). Fanatec lists this bundle under PC, and it's a PC pick: Fanatec's page for the P1 V2 says "this product is not compatible with XBOX systems" (Fanatec UK). For Xbox, the CSL DD needs "any Fanatec XBOX-licensed Steering Wheel"; the cheapest in Fanatec UK's Xbox wheels list was the CSL Steering Wheel GT3 at £174.99. It never works on PlayStation. The CSL DD base alone was £289.99 (Fanatec UK).

Direct drive on PS5: Thrustmaster T598, £449.99

Neither MOZA nor Fanatec's CSL DD supports PlayStation, so we didn't find a £300 direct-drive kit for PS5. The cheapest PlayStation direct-drive kit with pedals we found was the Thrustmaster T598. Thrustmaster says it has "5 Nm of constant torque" with "overshoot capability of +100%", an 11.8-inch (30 cm) detachable rim and the metal Raceline Pedals LTE (2 pedals), and that it "is compatible with PS5, PS4 and PC". It was £449.99, in stock, at Thrustmaster UK on 1 Nov 2026 (Thrustmaster UK). There's no desk clamp in the box: add Thrustmaster's £44.99 Desk Mounting Kit or use a cockpit.

If you might own both a PlayStation and an Xbox, Logitech's RS50 System (8 Nm, £599.99 for the PlayStation/PC or Xbox/PC version, no pedals) is the one base that can cover both with an extra hub. That's more than most beginners spend, so it has its own page: RS50 on PS5 and Xbox.

Many sim racing guides recommend these two. Neither has a public affiliate programme we could find, so these are plain links.

FAQ

What is the best sim racing wheel for beginners in the UK?

It depends on your platform and budget. On 1 Nov 2026 the cheapest force-feedback kit was the Thrustmaster T128 (£149.99). On PS5 the G923 (£219.99 at Currys) and T248R (£229.00 at Currys) were close. On PC and Xbox, the MOZA R3 (£269 PC, £329 Xbox) was the cheapest direct-drive kit with pedals.

Is direct drive worth it for a beginner?

It costs more, but on PC the gap is small: on 1 Nov 2026 the MOZA R3 for PC (£269, direct drive) was £19.01 more than the G923 PC Only (£249.99) at Logitech UK. On PS5, the cheapest direct-drive kit we found was the £449.99 Thrustmaster T598, about double the G923 or T248R at Currys, plus £44.99 for a desk kit.

Do MOZA wheels work on PS5?

No. MOZA's support page says: "Currently, MOZA Racing products do not support PS4 or PS5."

Does the Fanatec CSL DD work on PS5?

No. Fanatec says the CSL DD "is not compatible with any PlayStation® console and cannot be upgraded to achieve compatibility".

Can I use a PlayStation wheel on PC?

Yes, for the wheels on this page. Logitech's PlayStation G923 is sold as "PS5 /PlayStation /PC", and Thrustmaster says the T128 and T248R work with PC.

Do I need a cockpit?

No, not to start. Thrustmaster (T128, T248R), MOZA (R3, R5 Pro) and Fanatec (CSL DD bundle) say their kits clamp to a desk or table, and Logitech says the RS50 System comes with what you need to mount it on a table. The G923 and the T248 (Xbox) come with clamps too. The T598 is the exception: it has no desk clamp, so add Thrustmaster's £44.99 Desk Mounting Kit or use a cockpit. A cockpit or stand can come later.
